Support Handmade Spotlight: Scrappy Gifts

As many of you know, I love to support small businesses, especially ones that specialize in handmade.  I mentioned in yesterday's A Crafty Soiree post that I am doing my part to encourage support of small businesses and handmade crafts by offering free ad buttons this month.  My hope is you'll discover some new businesses to fall in love with and have plenty of time to place orders for the holidays.

Some of the participating artisans are also doing guest posts and here is our first one, from a familiar name around here.  Maryanne and I have been online cropping buddies for awhile now and I've even got a few of her wonderful paper crafts, my personal favorite is the scrappy box she made me.  I'll let her take it from here...

Hey Maryanne here from Scrappy Gifts. I'm so excited to be guest posting here at Katie's Nesting Spot. I love Katie's scrapbooking projects! She is an creative inspiration to me.

Here's a little bit about me.
My husband and I have been married for almost 7 years. We have an almost 3 year old boy and 6 month old baby girl. Along with my Scrappy Gifts, I have a blog called Crafty Mommy Diva where I try new things, share mommy moments and fashionable Fridays.

Mini Tutorial for you!

Today I wanted to share with you some fun bow holders I made for my baby girl. I bought these wooden fence looking boards that already came with a hook and a hanger. I, with the help of my 2 year old son, painted these with black acrylic paint along with the hanger and the hook. I let them dry and added some thick lime green ribbon and then some hot pink polka dot ribbon (about of foot a piece of each ribbon) on the top of that with glue dots (craft/super glue would be stronger to hold lots of bows).
Then I found some coordinating scrapbook paper and cut them into strips to put them on the slats. I mod podged it on (again with the help of my two year old - a little too much help as there was a lot of excess mod podge to get off =D).
Finally I embellished the paper with these fun big, green butterflies along with some bling (green rhinestone dots on the black one and pink flowers on the pink one). The black one I also added the sticker chipdboard piece that says beautiful. Then I clipped on my collection of bows that I have.
Very simple and so cute!!!

A couple weeks ago, I even taught a class to make these bow holders. Here are how some others turned out. =D
Another quick project, I made was a headband holder. I took a big lemonade canister (or a Quaker Oatmeal one would be great), ripped off the label, painted it hot pink with lime green paint on top, added strips of coordinating scrapbook paper with glue dots and added some chipboard flowers on the lid.

Thanks again Katie!

Wow Maryanne, those bow holders are so beautiful!  What a clever way to use scrapbook paper!  I love how they look on the wooden "fence" slats.  It sounds like your class would be a very fun one to take, especially since you get to learn something new and leave with a great gift idea!

The headband holder is just what I need!  I was just looking at the jumble headbands in my daughter's bathroom over the weekend and wondering how I could make those look better.  Thanks for the idea!

Don't forget, you can get 25% OFF YOUR ORDER, see details above.  Thanks Maryanne for offerring that terrific deal for my readers!
