Just as 2011 was beginning I received the reprinted version of Unto the Hills: A Daily Devotional by Billy Graham, published by Thomas Nelson. I've never had a daily devotional of any kind and I immediately was drawn to the format.
It's comprised of 365 daily devotionals from Billy Graham, each with a scripture, a brief message that helps relate it to you and your life, and closes with a special prayer. Most entries are one page long, so short and fairly concise. Each still provides ample opportunity for reflection and thought upon how to live as a Christian in an increasingly hectic and fretful world.
Starting my day by reflecting on one of the 365 readings has been a wonderful way to center myself, calm my spirits, and get prepared for the day. I can already tell it will be a valuable tool in helping me draw closer to God and his message. Graham's words are both thought provoking and comforting.
As part of my review I read ahead. The March 25th entry titled "Our Homecoming Parade" and it's message was particularly helpful to me as we near what would've been my late grandmother's birthday...the first one since she has passed. Unto the Hills is a good option for those looking for a relatively quick way to reflect on our relationship with the Lord and provides a daily reminder to look to Him for help.
Disclosure: I received a reviewer's copy of this title through the Book Sneeze program from Thomas Nelson Publishers. Experiences and opinions expressed are personal and unbiased.
Thanks for the recommendation. A good devotional book is a tremendous blessing. One that my grandparents gave me many years ago that I have loved & read through many, many times is "Streams in the Dessert." It has the same type of format & is wonderful for a quick five minutes of getting your mind & heart in the right place for another day :-)
ReplyDeleteSomeone gave us a children's devotional. It is actually really cute and the girls love it. We read it at breakfast (if we remember!)The illustrations are cute and the little kid friendly messages are great conversation starters.
