Flushed with success from my first attempt at glass etching, I decided to give it another go for my mom's birthday last week. I saw the cutest cookie jar on How Does She? and decided to make my own version.I don't have a Silhouette, although after this crafty adventure I'm beginning to wish I did. Nor did I have vinyl or the ability to pick from a variety of fonts. Instead I had three fonts to decide between and the smallest I can cut is one inch letters.
I'm not 100% happy with the results, because I had envisioned it differently. Actually, truth be told, I was super annoyed at how long it took to line up letters. Getting the proportions right was also tough. I'm still learning how to use my Cricut and had to cut out several versions of stencils until I got it right. If that wasn't bad enough, all the cookies crumbled and didn't fill up the jar. All in all, I think I'm still glad I did it. If nothing else it was a learning experience. I just wish I hadn't had to stay up until 2 AM working on it, but that's my fault for procrastinating. My mom swears she likes it. But then again, she's my mom and I think it's a requirement of motherhood to say that! Have you had a craft fail lately? If so, tell me what it was and why things went awry so we can commiserate together.

Ok this is darling-- let the "S" go... no one will ever notice it. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteWe are always too critical of our won work. I think it looks fabulous! I am serious...you need to open an Etsy shop with all your beautiful creations!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea!!
ReplyDeleteIt's great. If I was your mother, I'd be thrilled to have received this as a gift!
ReplyDeleteOf course I am thrilled with it! It's very cute and sits well in my kitchen. But now I'll have to keep it filled - which is hard because I'll keep eating the treats!! :)
ReplyDeleteI would not call that a total failure! I think it turned out great! So you didn't fill it up- big deal! I have a whole section of flops on my blog! You're right, they're all learning experiences!
