I'm always up for finding dinner short cuts and Chinese food is one of my favorite types of cuisines. I also happen to be rather bad at making it myself, ironic isn't it considering I'm of Korean descent and all. All in one frozen dinners always look so tempting to me, but I've been hesistant to try the in the past, so when I got the chance to review Wanchai Ferry's line of complete dinners I couldn't wait to try it!
Product Description:
Wanchai Ferry frozen entrées are perfect to have on hand for those nights you´re in the mood for Asian cuisine, but would rather enjoy it with a relaxing night in. Available in the freezer section of your local grocery store, Wanchai Ferry frozen entrées come complete with everything you need to make a restaurant quality meal in the comfort of your own home.
The newest Wanchai Ferry flavor, Beef & Broccoli, is the first beef dish in their line of great-tasting, complete Chinese meals for two. Ready to serve in only 14 minutes, Wanchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli comes with tender beef strips, and an assortment of Asian-style vegetables, including broccoli florets, red peppers and water chestnuts. It even includes rice and a rich brown sauce accented with soy and garlic for an authentic flavor experience.
Be sure to try the two additional new flavors of Wanchai Ferry frozen entrées, Kung Pao Chicken and Szechuan Style Chicken, which will soon join five other delicious varieties including Orange Chicken, Shrimp Lo Mein, Spicy Garlic Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken. Additionally, all of the entrées have no added MSG!
What We Thought:
The meal was quick and easy to prepare, but we noticed right away that the portions seemed very small. Maybe it's because we're used to oversized American style meals, but even with the rice it was hard to see two adults being satisfied with just the "complete meal". The picture above is of our cooked meal, on salad plates, it just looked too small and dinky on full sized dinner plates.
The vegetables and rice were fine but overall, we thought it looked and tasted like a frozen meal. No one would mistake it for Chinese take out. There were some additional serving suggestions, such as to sprinkle the finished dish with chopped nuts but we decided to test the meal just as it came. The sauce was a bit heavy and bland. It'd be fine in a pinch, but you'd have to suppliment your meal with a salad or some egg rolls, like we did for a real complete meal. On the plus side, it was nice to have everything you need, including the rice all in one. We just would've like to see slightly bigger portions.
