The Girl Creative is hosting a
Creating Christmas Blog Fest, and today is sharing a family Christmas tradition. I wanted to share one that is very dear to me from my childhood and one we plan to start this year with our three year old daughter. It's also a part of the
Holly Bloggy Christmas Bash, they are also featuring Christmas Tradtions, over at
Tidy Mom.
It's our gift to Jesus, this shoe box wrapped in very dated gift wrap might not look like much, but inside are years of memories and good deeds. Each year me and my brother would draw a picture representing something nice we had done and put in into the box.
Here is a very early one from me, in 1980 mine was all the hugs and kisses I gave to Mom and Dad. I was almost three years old.
The next year, at nearly four, I added setting the table for my mom and some early attempts at name writing are also captured.
A few years later, it was playing ball with my little brother David. How wonderful to have these examples of childhood work and writing to look back at. It's a time capsule that also shows how my artistic abilities evolved and a reminder of what the holiday is all about. Giving Jesus what is most important, a gift from the heart.

It would be so fun to pull out all the old pictures to look at before placing the new one inside. Great idea!

ReplyDeletewhat a nice tradition - and one i have never heard of before. i remember taking a present to baby Jesus to put under the church Christmas tree and beiong so excited to do that every Christmas Eve - it was then donated to a shelter.

Katie, I just got a little choked up with this one. What a precious way to instill this great quality with our little ones and stop to think about what is truly the most important thing to give at Christmas. I will be using this idea for tomorrow (Sunday's) activity of the day. I can't wait to use this as a tradition we do through the years! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I wanted to do something with wrapping a gift for Jesus, but couldn't figure out exactly what to do, so I'm so happy to have stumbled across this post (I'm SO BEHIND in reading blogs!!)
