I am so happy tonight, because I got to meet my all time favorite author bestselling and prolific historical writer Alison Weir. I'm a huge British history buff and it's all because of her book, The Six Wives of Henry the VIII. That book got me hooked and I've read mainly history books ever since. I have every book she's ever written, with the exception of her British Genealogy because it's only available in the UK.
It's so fun to actually meet one of your heroes and to have the experience be all that you could ever hope it would be. I kid you not, I don't think there has ever been a "famous" person I've ever wanted to meet more, seriously I'd rather have lunch with her than Brad Pitt or another famous celebrity like that. And yes I realize that probably sounds crazy to most people!
She gave the nicest talk about Kathryn Swynford, the main historical figure of her newest book Mistress of the Monarchy. She is a wonderful speaker, very knowledgeable and very passionate about her subject. Her talk was followed by a question and answer session, during which I actually got up the nerve to ask a question. Then she signed her latest book and posed for this picture with me.
I feel I should point out that my dear friend Margaret drove an hour and a half in a downpour and rush hour traffic to come with me and snap that photo. Isn't she just the best, I think she earned the friend of the year award for that. Don't worry I treated her to a yummy donut sundae and decadent coffee drink at Zingerman's Roadhouse afterward so it was quite a night for me!
That is really great that you got to go there to meet her. Ans what a great friend to come out there to be with you. It had to have been a great night.
ReplyDeleteI'll write the Henry's wives book down on my list to read on my next vacation!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a good time. ER was all "I miss mommy so much." I was like, "Arn't you always asking about me when I am at work?"
ReplyDeleteAlways want the one you are not with I guess.
Wow Katie! What a treat! And what a friend you have as well!
ReplyDeleteKatie that is so cool!! I am now putting Mistress of the Monarchy on my ever growing list of books to read.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for asking a question. I could never do that. Me wimp.
